El Zoologico de Guadalajara

Hola mis Amigos Queridos,

Please scroll all the way down for the English translation!

Saludos&Besitos,
Mandy xx

One day at the Zoo-always an adventure for young and old and since Guadalajara has the biggest zoo in Mexico we definitely had to go there, too. Generally, my opinion about zoos is not the very best because the animals are usually not kept in a way that meets their natural habits which is why I always feel the need to put a zoo director into one of those small, dark and dirty cages in order to experience how it feels to be stuck in there. Nevertheless, I did not want to miss out on the experience. I did not expect a Mexican zoo to be that much different from a German or American zoo and a one day break from all these cultural shocks seemed like a good idea to me.

And it wasn´t so much different from all the zoos I´ve seen before, except that most of the cages were outside and pretty large. This zoo also had its very own safari park and it was a really cool experience to get so close to all these animals like zebras, elephants, giraffes etc. Especially giraffes have always been fascinating me with their height, their graceful movements and their voluminous eyelashes that make me feel very jealous ;-) The tour guides also gave us some leaves to feed to them so they would come really close. Son bonitas!!!

The people there were also interesting-especially all the kids running around, yelling and laughing-and everywhere they´d say “Oh que bonito! Oh que pequeno!” However, what shocked me the most was our visit at the terrarium! Apparently, it´s not Mother Nature or some drug dealers who are responsible for most of the deaths in Mexico-it´s a little mean and poisonous snake!!! And of course this snake gets supported by lots of other dangerous animals such as spiders, crocodiles etc. Welcome to the Tropes-it really isn´t all about sunshine around here! I must admit that this was news to me and I am still shocked by the finding that I am now living in a place where all these dangerous animals are coming from. Statistically, it is more likely to be killed by one of these animals than dying the natural way. I just can´t and I don´t want to believe this! As soon as we are finally going to have our high speed internet connection, I will do some research on this topic and until then I will keep having a careful look underneath my bed before getting up in the morning ;-)
