It´s beyond scary how fast time is running through our hands. It´s been weeks, since I´ve published the last post on this blog and ever since, I´ve been traveling and collecting picture.perfect memories to share with you. Meanwhile, it has also been about two weeks since the sad day X when I had to leave Mexico. Unbelievable, how these 6months have passed so fast.

I´ve been back to my beloved United States of A(weso)merica for about two weeks now and I absolutely enjoy living with my former American hostfamily. It´s been 4 years since my Au pair year but we´re still in touch and whenever I come to visit, it´s like time-traveling. Except for my 3 lovely little "monsters" who are not so little anymore, everything seems to be the same as it used to be. So I´m feeling like I´ve come home already, although I have to admit that I´m already missing Mexico-which is fairly obvious, judging from the winter-cold weather around here. Getting off the airplane in Baltimore, I had a serious temperature-shock and everyone around was just giving me this "what the hell did you expect"-look, but seriously, after 6months of endless summer, it is mission impossible to get used to this kind of temperatures again. Sunshine, where are you!?

Well, not just the temperature shocked me this time. After being in Mexico for 6months, believing that it had been fairly americanized, I had to come to the striking conclusion that the real America was even more American! I ended up staring at people, the food courts-even at the big and clean airport bathrooms(in fact, around here I can throw paper right into the toilet-not into the bin next to it-that´s still confusing me)-like I did back then in July 2008, when I first entered the United States. Anyway, here I am-back to the country of endless impossibilities and overload, where everything is big and tall and shiny...at least from the outside. There are schedules on public busses-and you can even buy bottled Mucho Mango Iced tea! I´m just badly missing these little taquerias on the sreets, agua jamaica in plastic containers, lactose free milk at Starbucks, Oxxo, our beloved burritoman, palm trees-and this soothingly hot mexican sunshine caressing my skin, which I have grown so familiar with? I am in another world, experiencing a cultural shock backwards to what´s closest to my original culture-but traveling for such a long time has changed my cultural habits forever and what´s next is to find out which Mexican habits I will include into my cultural habits from now on. Meanwhile though, there is one very american cultural habit I still have to pursue and that means paying regular visits to the world famous Cheesecake factory. Oh holy cheesy-sweet goodness, called Oreo Dream Extreme Chocolate Cheesecake-you warm up my heart in cold winter nights ;-)

However, I don´t want you to get the impression that this was just about food. There´s much more to miss about Mexico, than their simple but tasty cuisine, starting from these beaches that must be part of paradise and not quite ending deep inside the magical djungle. What I am missing the most, though, are all these lovely people I got to know during the past six months. Without you it wouldn´t have been half as awesome! Thank you for everything you did and for all these great moment and exeriences we were granted to share together. Muchas gracias also to my lovely students at CUCEA, my colleagues at UAAL and our supervisors, who have always been so kind and understanding. I really hope that our paths will cross again one day. Muchos besitos amigos!

Mexico, you were so good to me and therefore you´ll always keep a part in my heart. You taught me to think a little different and value things that I used to take for granted. You turned everything heels over head and helped me to a whole new perspective. You´ve kept me warm and given me quite this luxurious sun-tan I´ve always dreamed of but most of all, you´ve granted me with a headful of beautiful memories to take and cherish. For now, I´ve got to say goodbye but it won´t be forever. I´ll miss you-Mexico-te quiero mucho!

So this is it...I´m out of Mexico and meanwhile I´m also pretty much running out of time in the United States. Some of you know already, where I´m headed to next and for the rest, you´re welcome to make an educated guess ;-)
Meanwhile, stay tuned for these posts that will be fully loaded with colorful pictures from what must be paradise-following up: "La vida buena en Cozumel" =)

Saludos&Besitos,
Mandy xx
