As promised, today I am sharing some pictures of the famous pyramides of Teotihuacán with you. 45km north of Mexico City, these are the most visited ruins in Mexico. Archaeologists assume that the site has been a major city in the area going back to the year 600 BC. It is said to have contained about 200000 inhabitants by late 600, which would have made it the largest and most powerful city in Mesoamerica. However, by the time the aztecs discovered the place it must have been abandoned for more than a 100 years already and until today, no one knows the reason why. The aztecs declared the ruins as a magical place and named it Teotihuacán, which means "where one becomes a god"
Professional research of the site started in 1900 already but until today there are no written documents found, which results in interpreting  recent findings. In 1987, the site became a UNESCO world heritage and has had numerous visitors ever since. The Pyramide of the Sun, in the centre of the site, is the favorite attraction. With 222*225*65m, it is the 3rd largest pyramid in the world and visitors need to be in good shape to climb its stairs. The view is absolutely worth it, though!
The site is easily reached via bus, starting from Terminal Norte in Mexico City, the entrance to the site costs around 60 Pesos, or nothing if you happen to have a mexican student ID ;-)
The whole site is fairly large which means you need a whole day to walk around. I´ve met quite a few number of people who were there the 2nd or even 3rd time. Apparently you´ll never know it all. Don´t forget to bring sunscreen, a cover for your head as there is absolutely no shadow. Also, bring a lot of water and some snacks-you are allowed to bring your bags but there is no chance to buy food or drinks on the site. I hope by now you are curious to see the place yourself and if not-here are some more pictures for your inspiration ;-)

Saludos&Besitos,
Mandy xx
